CNC Machining

Twin City EDM & Manufacturing delivers precision medical device CNC machining for surgical-grade components and kits. From cannulated drills to orthopedic kits, our team supports your product lifecycle from concept to delivery with advanced machining and comprehensive documentation.

We specialize in tight-tolerance, small- to mid-volume production for OEMs who demand reliable performance from every part. Whether you’re building a driver, a hand tool, or a complete kit, we machine each component with attention to detail and compliance.

Machining for Surgical Instruments and Kits

Twin City EDM produces drills, drivers, and surgical instruments that are ready for direct insertion into kits or for individual orders. Our expertise encompasses one-offs and recurring production orders, all of which are supported by rigorous quality controls.

We manufacture:

  • Cannulated and solid drills in a variety of tip styles
  • Surgical drivers with interchangeable ends and ground tips
  • Complete orthopedic and dental kits with handheld instruments
  • Components used for cutting, grinding, guiding, stitching, clamping, and inserting

Common materials include:

  • 17-4, 455, and 465 stainless steel
  • X15TN, 420 SS, and 304 SS
  • Titanium 6Al-4V and other high-strength alloys

Each part can be machined with standard or custom flutes, shafts, and end attachments, depending on application needs. Volumes range from 10-piece prototyping runs to 1,000+ EAU repeat orders of 10,000 – 100,000.

Precision CNC Machining Capabilities

We maintain ±0.0001″ tolerances throughout every step of the process, combining CNC machining with complementary services, including wire EDM, Swiss turning, and laser marking.

Capabilities include:

  • Multi-axis CNC milling and turning
  • Sinker and wire EDM for complex internal features
  • Swiss machining for slender shafts and precision tips
  • Laser welding and laser marking (UDI, serials, lot numbers)
  • In-house passivation, electropolishing, and final inspection

Our machinists and engineers understand the small design details that make surgical instruments reliable in the OR. We work closely with OEMs to meet geometric, functional, and regulatory requirements.

Compliance-Ready Manufacturing

Every drill, driver, and kit component is made under ISO 13485:2016- and ISO 9001:2015-certified quality systems. We support your compliance workflows with full traceability, repeatable process controls, and documented inspections.

All medical device machining includes:

  • First article inspection (FAI)
  • Lot-level material traceability
  • In-process and final CMM inspection reports
  • Optional kitting and inventory stocking programs

Whether you’re working with titanium, stainless, or specialty alloys, our team can manage the process from raw stock to ready-to-ship components—without handing your project off to multiple vendors.

End-to-End Support for Medical OEMs

Our approach to medical device CNC machining goes beyond the machine tool. We’re a long-term partner that brings collaborative problem-solving and proactive communication to every project.

Clients trust us for:

  • Design input and feature optimization
  • Efficient setups and toolpaths for short runs
  • Fixture development and process validation
  • Cleanroom-ready handling and packaging

Many of our drill and driver programs begin with custom builds that evolve into stocked, blanket-order production. We scale with you, while maintaining the same focus on quality and documentation that earned you FDA approval.
