Orthopedic
Instrumentation
Orthopedic instrumentation manufacturing demands absolute precision, biocompatible materials, and consistent quality. At Twin City EDM & Manufacturing, we produce orthopedic instruments and implants with the tight tolerances, surface finishes, and documentation required for use in regulated medical environments. Orthopedic OEMs trust us to deliver clean, accurate parts. We provide end-to-end support throughout the design, validation, and production phases to ensure the best results.
Precision Machining for Surgical Confidence
Orthopedic tools and implants operate in unforgiving environments where even the slightest deviation can cause serious problems. Our expert machinists and engineers collaborate closely with OEMs to ensure that every detail aligns precisely with your goals. That includes matching the right material and machining method to each feature, not just for form and fit, but also for long-term durability under surgical loads and sterilization cycles.
We machine orthopedic components with:
- Dimensional accuracy within ±0.0001″
- Smooth surface finishes that reduce friction and resist contamination
- Consistent geometry across production runs
- Full traceability from raw material to final inspection
Whether we’re producing instrument handles, guide sleeves, or implantable anchors, each part is manufactured to support surgical success and patient safety.
In-House Capabilities for Complex Orthopedic Parts
Twin City EDM specializes in parts that require multi-process workflows and high-precision tooling. Our expertise in wire EDM, sinker EDM, Swiss turning, and 5-axis CNC machining enables us to machine features that many job shops would not attempt.
Common orthopedic components we manufacture include:
- Drills, drivers, and cutting guides
- Anchors, plates, and fixation devices
- Assembly-ready components for modular implant kits
- Titanium housings and interface elements for robotic systems
By performing machining, finishing, laser marking, passivation, and final inspection under one roof, we give our customers complete control over quality and lead time. There’s no need to coordinate with multiple vendors when everything can be done in-house.

Built for Biocompatibility and Surgical Use
Orthopedic components must meet dimensional specs and pass stringent cleaning, handling, and packaging requirements.
We work with the materials best suited for orthopedic applications, including:
- Titanium and titanium alloys
- Stainless steels (including 17-4, 316L, including all 300 and 400 series SS)
- Cobalt-chrome
- PEEK and other high-performance polymers
These materials are machined using controlled feeds, sharp tooling, and validated processes to maintain structural integrity and eliminate contamination risk. Once machined, parts can be laser marked with UDI codes or serialized identifiers, then passivated, electropolished, and packaged in accordance with FDA and customer specifications.
